Auction

For Sale by Public Auction and via Livestream on Wednesday 26th August 2026 at 2.00pm at The Digby Hall, Hound Street, Sherborne, Dorset DT9 3AA. Register to bid in the room, online, by telephone or by proxy via our website.

Situation

The coppice lies approximately 4 miles to the south of the historic market town of Sherborne and 1 mile to the south of the A352. The woodland is accessed from the A352 via the highway known as Dyke Head which adjoins the western boundary. Access is primarily gained via the unclassified road known as Bradford Lane to the south. Vehicle access is not established at present, but is physically possible. The coppice benefits from being surrounded by agricultural land and views of the wider undulating landscape.

The Property

The coppice is dominated by ash and oak. The understorey is dense hazel coppice, which has historically been cut by the current vendor for thatching spars. Ground flora is rich and varied, including dog’s mercury and contains areas of particular ecological interest, supporting species such as early dog-violet, moschatel, wood anemone, bluebell, spurge-laurel and common twayblade. The coppice extends to approximately 1.48 acres (0.60 hectares), lying to the north of Bradford Lane. The land is generally level, with a gentle southwestern slope creating an accessible and manageable area well-suited to a variety of recreational or conservation uses.

Services

No mains services present or connected.
During wetter months, a stream trickles on an east to west trajectory within the southern part of the coppice.

Agents Notes

- The entirety of Dyke Head Coppice is designated as a Site of Nature Conservation Interest (snci) by the Dorset Wildlife Trust, reflecting its ecological significance. A comprehensive survey undertaken in 2011 recorded a total of 69 species of flora and fauna within the woodland. A full schedule of the species identified at the time of the survey is available from the selling agent upon request.
