The Sellers View
Kingslow House has been our fantastic happy family home for the past 31 years. The views from here are second to none and we shall miss those dreadfully! Every window has its own special view.
This means that if the sun is shining the house not only benefits from the views but the warmth the sun brings too. On a clear day one can almost see into Wales. It has actually been in our family’s ownership for the past 65 years plus. The house started life as a pair of farmers cottages which 16 years ago we totally renovated as one house and built on the modern parts of the house which face the back garden. It was all rewired, re-plumbed and replastered. David has lived in this lane all his life all 76 years! He lived in part of Kingslow House from the 70’s. His family were farmers and farmed the area for many years until David’s retirement. A local Pattingham farmer now farms it all although we do still own a couple of pockets of land ..(could be sold as an option) It is now time for a change as we approach our later lives. We are ready for a new adventure. We have regularly had all the family to stay here and that is 14 of us! The house accommodates everyone in comfort, so much so that they are reluctant to leave! We have renovated our home with love at every step of the way and we are actually reluctant to leave it but the time has come…Our regular family parties have been held here in the grounds with family races and football etc being played on the paddock area which leads out from the kitchen bi-fold doors. The grandchildren have had the best times making their memories here….swinging in the tree, space-hopper races, taking the small dinghy around the pond, playing in the hot tub we used to have, playing football and camping too! The gazebo on the main lawn has housed 14 of us chatting with a drink in hand until the small hours! It is so lovely sitting in there on a warm evening looking at the wildlife on the pond. The birds do not seem to know we are there so they all come out. Many many ducklings and moorhens have been hatched on the floating duck-house every year. In pond are Carp and Golden Rudd which are pretty self-sufficient but they do appreciate a handful of food occasionally…especially from the children! They are a joy to watch. The 7 bedrooms with high ceilings can sleep 14 easily and the 4 en suite bathrooms and 1 family bathroom make staying here very convenient for everyone although they could easily be used for other purposes. The large end bedroom has the benefit of a “through-floor-lift” which enables elderly people to access the upstairs with ease. Indeed one of the other bedrooms could be converted into a sitting room if needs be. There is air-con in all four major bedrooms and the two rear bedrooms have balconies and French doors overlooking the pond and back lawn. The kitchen is our showpiece with a very large spread of bi-fold doors to the back and the side of the rear of the property. These are opened whenever the weather allows and it means it feels like you are dining outside ..from inside. The floor is modern flagstones and wet under-floor heating runs all through the back of the house. The kitchen is constructed by Bernard Savage, Wolverhampton. It is painted wood which can obviously be repainted to any colour of your choice. The Aga is a reconditioned by Twyfords, oil fired, 1928 cream Aga in keeping with the age of the house. A double Belfast sink sits under the window with views to the pond. The usual appliances are fitted including two fridges, dishwasher, drinking water tap etc. Fully fitted flagstone floor Utility room with wine/drinks fridge and plumbing for washing machine. We pump our own water from our borehole which results in no water charges at all! A water softener is installed and there are drinking water taps in 3 bathrooms upstairs and at the kitchen sink. We benefit from a septic tank which has run perfectly without attention since our renovation 16 years ago when a new soak-away was installed. The garden room faces West and enjoys the benefit of the sunset! We call it the Gin & Tonic room where we relax in the evenings. There is electric underfloor heating. The downstairs rooms consist of a sitting room with cassette wood burning stove which leads through to the garden room. A music room and snug are two rooms joined by steps with a central double sided multi-fuel stove in the chimney breast. The ceiling beams are original. This central apart of the house is the oldest part possibly dating from the early 1800’s.The dining room has a large table enough to seat 14 with an oak central floor area we call, our dance floor! The front door leads into the library/hall with staircase and fitted shelving.
Kingslow House is a calm, tranquil comfortable family home. From witnessing the sunrise in the morning from the kitchen breakfast table to watching the sunset in the evening from the garden room or gazebo……watching the moorhens and chicks on the pond and listening to the wonderful birdsong…it is a little piece of heaven on earth. Thank you for viewing our lovely home.
