Description

With an established pedigree of royal ownership, (detailed below) and an opposite neighbour as grand and glamorous as 'Lady Danbury' of Bridgerton fame, how could anyone possibly resist this exquisite Georgian gem! Lovingly restored and sensitively refurbished by the current owners, light abounds within this versatile tall ceilinged and substantial courtyard apartment situated at the heart of Bath's picturesque city centre. Elegantly lit throughout, the property boasts tall original and shuttered sash windows overlooking sheltered courtyard gardens to three aspects. A visual tour de force, the accommodation is versatile with a contemporary specification with confident modern finishes which appear to melt effortlessly into original classical form proportion and period detail. On this basis early viewing comes highly recommended.

Sydney Place was the crowning achievement of architect John Pinch (of Cavendish Crescent and Sion Hill Place in Lansdown fame). It was built between 1807 and 1808 while Pinch was the retained architect of the Darlington Estate on Bathwick Hill, taking Bath Stone exclusively from one quarry and raising the whole terrace tier by tier to form one compact building. Interestingly of the eleven houses in this terrace, several still remain as whole townhouses. Shortly after completion, both ends of this fabulous terrace were acquired by the royal family of the time (later William IV and the father of Queen Victoria) in number 103 and his mother Queen Charlotte and wife of George III at the far end in number 93.
Location

Sydney Place is situated in Bathwick, at the far end of Great Pulteney Street on the southern side of the City within a few minutes' level walk of the Centre. Pleasant walks may also be enjoyed along the towpath of the Kennet and Avon Canal, accessed via Sydney Gardens opposite (a delight to visit in its own right.) A few local shops are available on nearby Bathwick Hill, including a Tesco Express. The City Centre offers a side range of shops, cultural and sporting facilities as well as some excellent restaurants. Bath Spa Station is within a 15 minute walk. This provides high speed rail links to London (Paddington 90 minutes approx.) Access via the A4 to the M4 is provided with the A46 to Junction 18 at Tormarton (10 miles North approximately).
