Description
A charming and elegant unlisted period house, offering up to six bedrooms and situated in one of the area's most sought-after locations and highest points in Essex. The house has many period features and combines generous and well-proportioned accommodation throughout. Forming part of the original manor house, the property enjoys a rich and fascinating history. The original part of Goldsmiths can be traced back to the 1540s and being built as a medieval hall house is one of the most historic properties in the area. It was previously occupied by Sir Joseph Dimsdale, Lord Mayor of London in 1901 and mp for the City of London between 1900 and 1906.

The accommodation is over three floors with the principal reception rooms and bedrooms enjoying high ceilings and big windows, which bathe the house in natural light. The ground floor has two impressive reception rooms separated by a fine hall and a feature staircase. At the rear is the kitchen/breakfast room with bi-fold doors onto a terrace and overlooking the gardens.

The first floor has three large bedrooms and a family bathroom. One of the bedrooms is used as a dressing room. The second floor has three further bedrooms and some useful storage.

Outside
The house stands at the centre of its plot. The front gardens extend to about 120 ft, mainly lawn with established borders creating a private area.

At the rear is another generous area of lawn which include a greenhouse and established borders. Beyond, separated by a rear entrance drive, shared by neighbouring properties, is a further garden area which includes some significant outbuildings and a garage. This is a lovely area for entertaining and al fresco dining. Previously, planning permission was granted for a bungalow, now expired.

Services
Mains water, and electricity. Private drainage, oil-fired central heating

Langdon Hills is a highly desirable residential area in Essex, forming part of the south-western side of Basildon within the Borough of Thurrock. It offers an appealing blend of semi-rural tranquillity, elevated positions with panoramic views, and excellent connectivity to London and the wider region. Historically known as Laindon Hills (or Langeduna in the Domesday Book, derived from the Anglo-Saxon for "Long Hill"), the area traces its roots back to Saxon times as part of the larger Laindon territory, later fragmenting into smaller parishes and manors. Today, it provides a peaceful, green escape while remaining well-linked to urban amenities.

The standout feature is the expansive Langdon Hills Country Park (approximately 400 acres, managed in part by Thurrock Council) and the adjacent Langdon Nature Discovery Park (461 acres, managed by Essex Wildlife Trust). These form one of the largest inland nature reserves in the area, designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (sssi). They encompass ancient woodlands (some dating to prehistoric times), flower-rich meadows, lakes, scrubland, and former Plotland gardens.
